At the end of 2020 I wrote a submission for the draft Draft Wexford County Development Plan (2021-2027).
I submitted 2 pieces:
Thriving Wexford, an eco-socio-economic lens with doughnut economics this includes how Wexford might use the doughnut economic model to address challenges in our environment, society and enterprises. It features Welsh Doughnut Economic model adopted in 2015 along with the Future Generations Act – they updated the Welsh Doughnut in 2020 its a good sized model for Wexford/Ireland, Meath CC case studies of climate action in their county council and also engagement with the public, an exemplar for Ireland.
Could Wexford aim to create 600 jobs in the circular economy by 2027? This submission also includes Dewi Williams on the street retail sustainability mark idea with his permission. The code is WXF-C3-101 I think that’s apt its a 101 of how to use planning to move to a circular economy and a zero-carbon society.
The document itself is huge and I could n’t tackle all of it, I was pretty impressed that Wexford Environmental Network (WEN) did just that, amazing work and commitment by such a dedicated group. You can access the WEN submission here.
All submissions are public and can be viewed. I like that, open transparent service. It does need some tweaking as I lost content at several different points.
This was the best I could do in the time that I had. I have n’t written anything like this in a while, there are flaws and errors. A bit of space from it, yeah i’d possibly structure it differently and name the second one – how to move to a circular economy through planning.
