In Feburary while making dinner I listened and watched a webinar by the Pitt ~Rivers Museum, it had caught my attention as someone RT’d it into my Twitter-stream.
It was advertised as being about labels. As a graphic designer labels are something I am interested in.
But also a a cultural thinker labels “are for jars not people” [direct reference to First Fortnight T-Shirt design ~ different story]
In a cultural context of a museum they are even more intriguing. Anthropology and its practices are of interest to me both in terms of research, inquiry, insights into culture and the stories shared of cultures. But in particular as to who writes history – who are the storytellers?
Who writes the labels?
Stories, mythology, legends were a thing in my childhood. Not so much history but the sense making found in stories. I have memories of being in museums as a child and being enthralled.
