Energy usage and climate action in the digital age

With shifting tides towards sustainable energy and the development of our awareness towards resources how long will it be before the younger generation so dependent on mobiles realize every scroll, click & selfie consumes and squanders resources? & those resources negatively impact climate change.

Will the generation leading the conversation and conversion on climate change, carbon emissions and carbon neutral goals bear the brunt and honest reckoning of ‘the selfie social media generation’?

I want to start a conversation on what it costs us

  • To take a selfie
  • To post an image to social media
  • To send messages using instant apps: Snapchat, TikTok, Viber, Tango, Kibo, Instagram, whatsapp, instant messenger and the likes
  • The device we are using
  • The energy we are using
  • The internet use of energy
  • The storage of the data
  • vast stores of unwanted text, images and emails

If we understood the resource cost of the actions we take how would it change our behavior? How might it reduce waste in the digital space?

I’m not sure how to delve deeper into this topic but I will figure it out, perhaps you know something about this or saw an article somewhere… Post me links/information in the comments below anything you come across that you think is informative to this conversation. I’ll see if I can find some answers or at least the signposts.

Y’all can tweet me @creativedynamix if you find something that we can distill to make sense of our actions and be authentic about our behavior and climate change.
